  SA journalists embrace blogs SA Media, Social media | (4)

  I've been pretty impressed by the way South African media professionals have embraced blogging in recent times. There is of course all this claptrap of big media vs the blogosphere, which I've always thought was nonsense. My two cents? Blogging is many things: in its most simple guise it's just a publishing format. But it's also a culture and a type/style of content. You can write on a blog and not be a blogger, or you can blog and not be a journalist. You can however be both, at different times. And roles often blur. Am I making any sense??? Recently ...

  This popped into my inbox this afternoon. I know Jovan Regasek well and have big respect for the man, ITWeb and the other publications his company puts out. For those of you wondering, ITWeb survived full on through the dot.bomb crash and was one of the few online publications that actually gave rise to various print titles (instead of the other way round).   Major bloggers conference in South Africa Social media | (1)

  Probably Africa's first ever major blogging conference, The Digital Citizen Indaba (DCI), will take place in South Africa on 14-15 September. The Indaba aims to bring bloggers, citizen journalists, media practitioners, industry experts, and representatives from civil society all under one roof. It will feature a diverse range of speakers and media professionals from across the globe. The DCI says it aims to "equip Africans with skills related to new media which empower them and the organisations they work for by creating a long-lasting and long-reaching digital voice".
