Can someone tell me why all this ranting about the blog awards is not just masturbation? I try to make sense of it but the overwhelming sense I get is blah, blah, blah, blah… clashing of cymbals, bashing of drums. Very little of the classical stuff that is intelligent and soothing on the ears.
The blog awards are a good initiative, ok? These people are doing it in their spare time, ok? They are not getting paid for it, ok? They are not getting wild accolades and showers of praise for it, ok? It’s the start of something that will inevitably get better, especially if there are more offers to help and get involved instead of sniping from the sidelines.
So maybe its not masturbation, but harri Kirri
Ok so I have now blogged about the awards. I tried not to for so long. I feel cheap and dirty.
DISCLOSURE: I am one of the SA blog award judges. I never put up one of those “nominate me” logos on my blog, nor did I ask anyone to nominate me and went out of my way to discourage anyone who asked. I did however blog that the awards were open. When I did the judging on my part, I did not see nor vote for my own blog in the list. I’m clean.
I thought the voting process was rather transparent and well done. I read quite a few blog posts. Some were bad, but most were of a good standard. Some were outrageously funny. The technical platform was a bit shaky, but I got it to work. There were a huge amount of blogs, all using different code and blog software and urls to pull together. I thought it all went rather well, actually.
