I don’t know what is about MK89 on DSTV. But it is brilliant and addictive. My van is nie Boekland nie, dis Buckland en ek is net amper ‘n rooinek. But Bridge and I are addicted to it and have started to get into Afrikaans music (yes, even Deleray Deleray). English artists are featured there quite often, including my alltime favourite SA band: DORP.
I have often slagged MNET off for poor production (Survivor South Africa, Laugh Out Loud and the inimitable Super Saturday are shockers that should never have made it to SA TV), but MK89 is excellent. It’s slick, professional — and most important its promoting a growing music sector… hear me out, tune in check it out. This comes from a soutie.

There is something happenin’ here…

I particularly dug the “…. se waaib” terminolgy. Is that a real word? It’s hilarious and the bands are great. Also like the “worst music video” section… hilarious.

i don’t know why other SA channels use them as an example of great post production, and the generally feel good “waaib” of the presenters.
